Head Brewer and Production Manager
Andy’s love of brewing started when he was in Hawaii when his wife gave him a home brew kit for Christmas. He loved to experiment with his home brew kits trying out different formulas.
When Pyramid Brewing opened in Kalama Washington and Andy was back home in Cathlamet, he knew there had to be a job there for him. He started his professional brewing career in 1991 cleaning tanks and shoveling grains. Over the next several years Andy worked his way up to become a brewer for Pyramid Brewing before they expanded to Seattle and closed the Kalama Plant. Andy chose to stay in the SW Washington area and Pyramid lost a fine brewer.
His love of brewing never stopped and he continued his home brewing career to keep his skills sharp. Andy likes to try new recipes and experiment with different yeast, grains, and hops to find the best combination for the perfect beer.
Now, Andy is brewing professionally again, this time as a brewery owner. We are very lucky to have someone with his experience help us set up and grow our local brewery ensuring we produce excellent products.
Steve has always loved beer, so much so that he has added a “brewery” onto his house. He had read several books and in 2007 he attended a home brewing class in Portland. From there it was brew, brew, brew for Steve. He found brewing to be not only fun, but challenging.
“After a stressful week I will go into my little brewery and slip into my brew life. I find it very rewarding and calming.”
Brewing has become his Zen.
Steve still has the first recipe that he ever made and over the past 7 years he has perfected it to be one of our featured beers, “Broken Hose”. It is the science of beer that interests Steve. All the little details and making sure that each step is followed to make sure that the taste, color, and quality can be found is in each and every glass of beer.
“I love the fact they you have to be right on and how just a little change can make or break your batch of beer”, Steve says.
Our tasting room is open on Fridays and Saturdays and sometimes you will find Andy or Steve still brewing. If you would like to meet one of our brewers contact us and we can set a meeting up for you.
